Although it's probably not critically the best, Buffy still brings me the warm fuzzies like no other. I'm rewatching it with a guy who claims he likes Community more - because the first season didn't do it for him, and he kind of hates Xander, BUT I WILL CONVERT HIM. IT WILL BE DONE.
Not that I think Community is worse, I just like Buffy more.

Honestly, the two shows are damn similar. I've argued this before, and I believe TODD!! has agreed on this point as well.
Both shows feature a well-balanced and well-developed ensemble cast, both shows shift from comedy to drama and back again with great dexterity, and with both shows you never quite know what you're going to find when you tune in for the next episode.
More than anything else, Community reminds me of Buffy, the early years of the latter in particular, which I suspect is part of why I took to Community so quickly.
And yeah, Xander's a dick, but if your friend hates him for being a dick (which he is) he's really not much worse than Jeff, if at all.
